Lubbock, Texas is
the home of radio station KRBL Real Country radio for Lubbock and the South Plains of
Texas. Lubbock is a great community in West Texas in which to live and has great radio
stations such as KRBL 105.7 FM that plays country music of today and yesterday. On the
South Plains of West Texas, auto racing in Lubbock is growing daily with two competing
tracks. KRBL has web pages promoting dirt track and clay track racing in Lubbock
sponsoring 3 race cars and their drivers.
Lubbock is known as the Hub City because the railroads and highways spoke out from Lubbock
as the spokes of a wheel do from its hub. Lubbock is a regional distribution leader - and
a big region it is. The Hub City and South Plains are famous for being small in population
but producing many leaders, innovators and stars of the entertainment industry -
especially singers and songwriters. Lubbock and the area was the incubator for such famous
people as Buddy Holly, Mac Davis and Roy Orbison just to name but a tiny sampling.
Lubbock has always had many restaurants. Restaurants in Lubbock have always been ahead of
the national curve in service, style and atmosphere. Restaurants in Lubbock are known for
innovation and great service. Many successful restaurant chains and restaurateurs have
gotten their start in Lubbock, Texas. The Furr's Cafeteria chain is from Lubbock, the Don
Pablo's and Harrigan's chains are from Lubbock, Abuelo's restaurants are from Lubbock as
are Gardski's and numerous others. Lubbock restaurants and students of Texas Tech
University and its top-ranked Restaurant, Hotel and Institutional Management (RHIM)
program have made Lubbock a top-level training ground for restaurant and hotel managers.
Sports in Lubbock are big. Big 12 Conference that is. Texas Tech University and its Red
Raiders and Lady Raiders are major NCAA Division competitors. Texas Tech Red Raider
football, Texas Tech Red Raider basketball, Texas Tech Red Raider baseball, Texas Tech Red
Raider track and Texas Tech Lady Raider basketball are always ranked highly in both
conference and national play.
Events in Lubbock range from college sports and commercial attractions such as movies and
an IMAX theater to national symposiums celebrating cowboy culture and Vietnam War
conferences at the worlds premier Vietnam War archives at Texas Tech University. Events in
Lubbock also tend to center around live music. The Depot District on Buddy Holly Avenue is
alive on weekends with live music. The Depot District is also home to the Buddy Holly
Center. The Buddy Holly Center is a new museum designed to showcase the Lubbock's
collection of Buddy Holly items. Each September, Lubbock hosts an international festival
