Unique music you'll hear often on the Rebel...

Panhandle
Dancer |
Lubbock's
Maines Brothers Band has re-released their 1980 album,
ROUTE 1, ACUFF, on CD following the successful re-release of their
1982 album PANHANDLE
DANCER.
ROUTE 1, ACUFF
features the West Texas Anthem AMARILLO HIGHWAY as well as the
tender SHELLY'S WINTER LOVE and proves the Maines Brothers, to be one of the most
enduring groups in Lubbock music. |

Route 1, Acuff
|
| Songs
from both ROUTE 1, ACUFF and PANHANDLE
DANCER are featured often on the
morning show between 6 & 9 a.m., and again in the afternoon with Steve
Richie.
Long
time favorites such as WHEN MY BLUE MOON TURNS TO GOLD and FLATLAND FARMER bring back a
flood of memories for Maines Brothers fans. The title cut, PANHANDLE DANCER is the last
cut on the CD. In 1985, the Mains Brothers Band was named one of the New Faces by the
Country Music Broadcasters Association. 1985 was an impressive year for newcomers in
country music. That class included Vince Gill, Randy Travis and Marty Stuart among others.

Letter to Laredo |
Joe Ely on the radio!!!
Only on the Rebel, KRBL-FM.
Lubbock's native son has an international following. His next to latest, and perhaps best work, is
LETTER TO LAREDO which is a departure for Ely. Featuring the haunting flamenco guitar of
Teye, cuts like GALLO DEL CIELO, a rambling seven minute plus song about a young man
and his fighting rooster tells of ambition, revenge and finally, lost dreams. |
| Only
Ely can take a simple tale of a farmer's daughter running away with a migrant hired to hoe
cotton and make it into an edge of your seat drama... Will they or will they not beat the
search party and the watchdogs to the border? You'll have to listen to RANCHES AND RIVERS,
cut 5, to find out -- it's played often on the Rebel. |

Joe's newest CD: Live @ Antones |
The CD is a
departure for Ely, long known as a Texas blues rocker, in the genre of ZZ Top and the late
Stevie Ray Vaughn.
His 1980 album, HOT SHOTS, was named the best new country album of the year by ROLLING
STONE magazine and was an artistic success but, never a a big seller by today's standards.Visit Joe's web-site at: http://www.ely.com/ |

Jody Nix |
Where else on
Lubbock radio can you hear great fiddlin' music with roots that go back
to Turkey, Texas native Bob Wills? Nowhere but KRBL. Big Spring Fiddler and vocalist Jody Nix, the son of famed Hoyle Nix, continues the family
tradition with his new CD, MUSIC THAT I LOVE. |
| Jody
is a favorite of West Texas dance clubs and his new CD features country classics such as
TATER PIE, JESSIE POLKA and JACQUES PIERRE BARDEAUX. Afternoon DJ Steve Richie is a close
friend of Jody and features his songs almost daily. |
|
| Terry Allen
is a Lubbock native with an unusual vocal style. The songwriter wrote AMARILLO HIGHWAY for
the Maines Brothers Band, and one of his CD's was LUBBOCK ON EVERYTHING. This classic work
contains Terry Allen standards such as his version of AMARILLO HIGHWAY and the hilarious
THE GREAT JOE BOB, which features a sensational ending by the Monterey High School band,
his alma mater. Allen, a talented
sculptor, did the life-size bronze of legendary barbecue cook C. B. "Stubb"
Stubblefield which was dedicated in 1999 on the site of the original and famous restaurant
in the 100 block of East Broadway in Lubbock. |

Kinky Friedman |
Legendary
Austin singer-songwriter, author and cigar smoker Kinky Friedman has a collection of his songs on CD featuring
some of the greatest names in country music. |

Pearls in the Snow |
| The
CD is aptly named PEARLS IN THE SNOW and got it's name when someone asked Kinky what
happened to all those great songs he wrote in the 70's... He said, "they were lost,
like pearls in the snow." The
project was years in the making, and features the likes of Willie, Dwight Yoakam, Lyle
Lovett, Asleep at the Wheel and others. Listen for cuts from this great CD on the Rebel,
KRBL-FM. |

Jimmy Rodgers |
Who in
the world is Gid Tanner and the Skillet Lickers? Or the Singing Brakeman? Or Sleepy
LaBeef? You can find out when
the Rebel presents THE ROOTS OF COUNTRY MUSIC -- a look back in time to the pioneers of
country music. |
| Random
cuts of are often featured on 105.7, with a historical perspective offered by General
Manager Paul R. Beane who maintains an extensive collection of rare music and often
selects one for play on the morning show or Steve Richie's afternoon drive show from 4
until 6 p.m. |

Butch Hancock |
Remember
the Flatlanders... a Lubbock based band? All three band members went on to
enjoy outstanding solo careers.
The Rebel, KRBL-FM, features the music of former Flatlanders Joe Ely, Butch Hancock and
Jimmie Dale Gilmore. |
| One of
Jimmie Dale Gilmore's best
works is the BRAVER NEWER WORLD, and Hancock continues his raw-edged work in OWN THE WAY
OVER HERE. The first cut is a rambling four minute, thirteen second piece entitled:
TALKIN' ABOUT THAT PANAMA CANAL. This cut shows Hancock's wit at its best. Another favorite Gilmore work is SPINNING AROUND
THE SUN released on the Electra label in 1993. The song, JUST AT WAVE, is one of the
greatest put-you-in-your-place songs ever recorded. |
